DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — An SUV crashed into the Halifax River Friday, the Daytona Beach Fire Department said.
The fire department said crews from a nearby fire station on South Beach Street heard the crash and ran outside to help a couple who were inside the SUV.
Officials said the driver lost control, hit a light pole and then crashed into the water.

The driver was able to climb out of a window and the woman got out via the back door, officials said.
The couple swam to the docks behind the fire station where they were assisted by fire personnel.
The two had minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital.
The SUV was fully submerged and a wrecking company was called to remove it.
