Mother behind bars, charged in the death of her 23-month-old child

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A mother is behind bars Sunday, charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Titusville Police arrested 30-year-old Amanda Paige Davis and her live-in boyfriend, 30-year-old Charner Leon Williams IV, in connection with the apparent drowning death of 23-month-old Athena Blevins. Both are charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, police said.

According to police, on Saturday afternoon, the child was found by the couple’s roommate unresponsive in the pool at their residence on the 700 block of Knox McRae Drive. The roommate performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Titusville Fire Department paramedics transported the toddler to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The parents did not wake up until paramedics arrived on scene, police said.

Titusville police detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence, and found paraphernalia consistent with illegal drug use, which, according to police, was easily accessible to the toddler. Police also found that no measures were put in place to prevent the toddler from other hazards, such as the swimming pool and the roadway.

Davis and Williams were taken into custody without incident and are currently being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail.
