BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Brevard County firefighter has adopted a dog that was rescued from a house fire.
Firefighter Woodrow Sweet and his crew responded to the Merritt Island home on Kennwood Avenue Jan. 10.

Dozens of animals were in the home when the fire broke out.
One cat and 13 dogs survived the fire and those animals later became available for adoption.

The department said on Facebook that Sweet adopted one the surviving Australian Shepherds and named him "Smokie."
