Proposed bills would give Florida parents with newborn babies more leave time

Two proposed bills filed in Florida this week would allow parents with newborn babies to get more time off from work.

The bills filed in the state legislature would require companies to offer three months of paid family leave, and would only apply to businesses with 15 employees or more.

Parents would have to work for the company for at least a year and a half and work more than 20 hours a week.

There is no state law in Florida pertaining to family leave.

A father of three, Adam Kapusin, said it is important for parents to be there during the first two months of a child’s life to make sure they are in a safe environment and are well-protected.

However, political analysts said the bills might not pass because they do not appear to have enough bipartisan support.
