ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando attorney stood outside Pulse to say he will continue to fight for an audit of the OneOrlando Fund.
It came hours after a judge denied a survivor’s request that would have kept other victims and their families waiting for their money.
The attorney, Paul Zeniewicz, said he thinks there’s more than $29.5 million in the fund, but he had no proof that that’s the case.
His client, Jillian Amador, wasn’t at the news conference, but Zeniewicz said she won’t stop trying to force an audit of the fund.
Amador’s ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Supersad said she wants everyone to know she wants the process to be fair.
“We are not here for greed. We’re here for the fairness and transparency,” she said.
Zeniewicz said Amador didn’t want to speak at the news conference.
“She couldn’t even come here. She doesn’t want to stand in this parking lot,” he said.
Channel 9’s Mike Manzoni asked Zeniewicz why he chose the nightclub, where 49 people were killed and 53 injured by gunman Omar Mateen, as a backdrop for a conference about a legal battle.
“I was not free personally, and I could not—I did not have availability. This made sense to come here tonight,” Zeniewicz said.
Zeniewicz’s request for an audit would have stopped 299 victims and their families from getting payouts from the OneOrlando Fund this week.
“I talked with another survivor who called this whole thing ‘greedy’ and ‘selfish.’ Those were his words. What do you say to survivors like him who feel this way? They're not happy at all about what you're doing,” Manzoni asked Zeniewicz said.
“Respectfully, to any of the survivors, I will defer,” Zeniewicz said.
Another hearing for the audit request is set for October 6.
