Christmas decorations, lights and ornaments hang outside the Apopka home of Christophe and Laura Coullier, but the couple who put them there will not be the ones to take them down.
The Coulliers were among 12 people killed Tuesday in a tour bus crash on the way to the Mayan ruins in Mexico.
Bill Thompson has lived next door to the couple for 15 years and said they had taken a Christmas cruise to the Caribbean and had been looking forward to seeing the ruins.
The couple will be sorely missed, Thompson said.
“They have just been a wonderful part of the neighborhood,” he said.
Christophe Coullier was originally from France and worked in finance, while his wife was a book designer, Thompson said.
His fondest memory of the pair was attending Christophe Coullier’s U.S. citizenship ceremony five years ago.
“It really brought home to me what it means to be an American, to see somebody who worked and studied to be a citizen instead of just being born with it here,” Thompson said. “They were wonderful people and it is a big loss to us.”
Neighbors said they have been turning on the Coulliers’ Christmas lights in memory of them during the holidays.
