9 Investigates: Another lawsuit filed against city of DeBary

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — 9 Investigates another lawsuit that has been filed against the city of DeBary and its former city manager.

The lawsuit stems from claims that the former city manager used derogatory language toward women.

A former city clerk said it happened to her when she questioned those sexist remarks.

Former city manager Dan Parrott retired abruptly in June, just as the first lawsuit was filed. Now, a second lawsuit was filed Tuesday by former city clerk Stacy Tebo against the former city manager and the city.

She claims that Parrot and the city retaliated against her based both on gender and her discrimination complaints.

She said there were disproportionate pay raises for women, and claims sexual discrimination. She also alleges discriminatory remarks like, "women don't think clearly,” they are "too emotional” and that city hall had "too much estrogen.”

The city has not responded on the record to the latest lawsuit, or the one filed in June.

Channel 9 also reported on controversy in May, when state investigators raided city hall in May looking for evidence that Parrott violated the sunshine law.

The lawsuit is demanding not only damages, but also back pay, compensation for lost benefits and Tebo wants her job back.
