Electric Daisy Carnival noise complaints reach Winter Springs

ORLANDO, Fla. — Thousands of people packed Tinker Filed in Orlando Friday and Saturday for the Electric Daisy Carnival, but Channel 9 learned noise complaints from the event came in from miles away.

Between the noise and alleged widespread drug use, it appeared the festival was packed with problems.

One Orlando resident who lives2 miles from Tinker Field, where the event was held, said he felt like he was at the EDC without ever having to leave his house.

"I heard this constant pulsing," said the man. "It was like a bass sound, like I was doing this all weekend. That's when it became a little irritating, because I'm watching television."

The event went from 1 p.m. to midnight each night, and noise complaints came in from nearby cities like Casselberry, Oviedo and even Winter Springs.

Police in Winter Springs even sent out an email alert after getting several complaints and assured residents the noise wasn't coming from anywhere in the city, but most likely the EDC in Orlando.

Channel 9 was there as the event kicked off Friday night.

"I got glow-in-the-dark nail polish, all different colors. I got glitter. I am ready," one attendee said.

Officials said at least 25,000 people were at the music festival Friday and more than 30,000 attended Saturday.

More than 45 people at the event were taken to the hospital over the weekend, authorities said, but officials could not say why the patients were transported.

Last year, a man died at the event in Las Vegas from an accidental overdose after he took Ecstasy, authorities said,

Last year in Orlando, paramedics transported 10 people, three of whom were treated for overdoses.
