2 UCF kickers to face conduct hearing after 'alcohol-related events'

ORLANDO, Fla. — University of Central Florida relied on a back-up kicker in their last game because of team rules violations by starter Shawn Moffitt and kickoff specialist Sean Galvin.

Head coach George O’Leary would not specify the nature of the rules violation, however, WFTV Sports Anchor Joe Kepner found out Moffitt and Galvin were both given referrals by university police for alcohol-related events earlier this month.

It was Moffitt’s second referral from UCF police.

Moffitt was found on campus by university police while they were responding to a call on Nov. 2.

According to reports, Moffitt was sitting on a bench “obliviously intoxicated to the point that he had to have help” and walking to a vehicle to take him home.

While the officer was trying to talk to Moffitt, Galvin arrived.

According to the police report, Galvin was “running around the green area and making noise and stumbling.”

The officer said Galvin tried to get him to let Moffitt leave by offering him season tickets to UCF football games. The report said the officer told Galvin “he could not bribe [the officer] and he began to laugh.”

Both players were given referrals for behavior under the influence of alcohol.

Galvin was also given a liquor law referral.

Under the UCF student code of conduct, both players are now subject to the student conduct review process.

Moffitt was also given a referral for behavior under the influence of alcohol in 2012. In that incident, Moffitt was found sitting in his truck unclothed with a female passenger who was partially dressed.

The officer said Moffitt’s eyes were “extremely bloodshot and glassy and his speech was slurred.” He also had a wristband that Moffitt said was from the Knight’s Library bar.

The incident happened five days before Moffitt’s 19th birthday. He was not given a field sobriety test because the officer said he never observed Moffitt driving, and the keys were not in the ignition.

Moffitt and Galvin were suspended for UCF’s game against Tulsa.

At the time, head coach O’Leary said the suspension was for a violation of team rules.

On Monday, O’Leary told the media both student athletes faced a student conduct hearing.

Moffitt, a senior from Orlando, attended Dr. Phillips High School.

He was an SI.com All-American honorable mention in 2013 after he led UCF in scoring with 112 points.

Galvin is a redshirt senior from Cork, Ireland and has played primarily as the Knights’ kickoff specialist.
