The Seminole County School District will have new bus stops and routes when students return to school next week.
All 450 of the district’s buses will also have GPS.
If a parent is concerned that a bus has not picked up or dropped off their child, dispatch can monitor the bus in real time and provide an estimated time of arrival.
“We know if there is an event happening with the engine. We know if there is event that the driver needs to address. We no longer have to ask, ‘Where are you? What’s your street address?’ We know exactly on the screen where they are. So if we need to get medical attention, if we have a discipline issue, we can deal with that immediately,” said Joseph Ranaldi, executive director of operations for Seminole County Public Schools.
The Seminole County School District still has 15 openings for bus drivers.
“We have every single route covered right now. What we are working toward is to make sure we have adequate substitutes as well,” Ranaldi said.
There are more than 1,000 new students enrolled in the school.
